Conversation with Baltimore City Health Department Commissioner Dr. Michelle Taylor

Maryland Philanthropy Network’s Health Funders Affinity Group is pleased to host Baltimore City Health Department Commissioner Dr. Michelle Taylor for a conversation about the Commissioner’s vision for the Department and its strategies to promote lifelong health and wellness for all Baltimore residents. Dr. Taylor will speak on their efforts to promote and improve the health and safety of Baltimore residents of all ages through disease prevention, access to care, quality management, advocacy, and community engagement. Michelle will discuss her recent reflections on the health department's operations and key areas of significant future collaboration with funders.

Commissioner Taylor brings a wealth of leadership experience to this role. A native of Memphis, Tennessee, Dr. Taylor most recently served as the Shelby County Division Director for Health Services. In addition, Dr. Taylor serves as Colonel, and Residency-Trained Flight Surgeon in the Tennessee Air National Guard. Dr. Taylor is a dedicated public servant who received her Doctorate in Public Health from Johns Hopkins University, Bloomberg School of Public Health as a C. Sylvia and Eddie C. Brown Community Health Scholar. Dr. Taylor received her undergraduate degree from Howard University, her medical degree from East Tennessee State University, James H. Quillen College of Medicine, and completed her pediatric residency at East Tennessee State University/Johnson City Medical Center and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. She holds a master's degree in Epidemiology from the University of Tennessee, and a master’s degree in public administration from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, where she was a Commonwealth Fund Mongan Fellow.
