Member-Sponsored Briefing: Measuring Impact for Food is Medicine and Medically Tailored Meals Interventions in Maryland

Monday, September 29, 2025, 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM

As Maryland advances its AHEAD value-based care model, understanding the role of nutrition in improving health outcomes and reducing costs has never been more urgent. This convening offers funders a unique opportunity to see firsthand how Food is Medicine interventions are shaping healthcare innovation in the state.

Join us at Moveable Feast, a community-based nonprofit with 36 years of experience providing medically tailored meals and high-quality nutrition services to individuals living at the intersection of chronic illness and food insecurity. Moveable Feast will present newly released findings from a three-year evaluation analyzing healthcare utilization and costs before and after enrollment in its medically tailored meal program. These Maryland-specific data add critical evidence demonstrating the cost-effectiveness of Food is Medicine interventions.

The session will include a guided tour of Moveable Feast’s meal preparation, packing, and distribution center, providing an inside look at the organization’s operations and impact. It will also offer a discussion on what these findings mean for the future of Food is Medicine programs in Maryland, particularly as value-based payment models reshape the healthcare landscape.
This is a timely opportunity for funders to engage directly with new data, learn from a leading provider, and explore where strategic philanthropic investments can accelerate innovation and sustainability in healthcare.

This briefing is sponsored by The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation and the Abell Foundation.

This program is for Maryland Philanthropy Network members and invited guests only; light lunch will be served.
