Transforming Regional Transit – A Briefing on the BaltimoreLINK Plan

Transforming Regional Transit – A Briefing on the BaltimoreLINK Plan

Wednesday, October 05, 2016, 12:00 - 1:30 PM

Initially released in October 2015, the BaltimoreLink Plan is a complete overhaul and rebranding of the core transit system operating within the city and throughout the greater Baltimore region. The proposal redesigns the entire local and express bus systems with the addition of 12 new high-frequency, color-coded bus routes intended to improve connections to other transit modes including Metro Subway, Light Rail, MARC train, commuter bus, Amtrak and other services. Project goals include strengthening access to existing and emerging job centers as well as improving overall frequency, service quality and reliability. BaltimoreLink also includes new services to connect suburb to suburb. The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) has conducted numerous workshops and has made adjustments to the plan based on public comments. A final round of public hearings is currently underway.

Kevin Quinn, Director, Planning & Capital Programming/Baltimore Link at the Maryland Transit Administration will give an overview of the plan covering issues related to neighborhood access to services, schools and job centers as well as community outreach. We will also be joined by Brian O’Malley, President of the Central Maryland Transportation Alliance to share an advocate’s perspective.

This program is for Maryland Philanthropy Network members only. Lunch will be served.
