New Program Aims to Bring Baltimore Art into More City Offices

Shanaysha Sauls says the Baltimore Community Foundation must be transparent, open and accessible. Now, a new art exhibit recently installed in the organization's lobby is helping to bring those priorities to life.

After almost three years of planning and a pandemic, the Baltimore-based philanthropic foundation opened its new art exhibition, Community, in its lobby at 11 E. Mount Royal Ave in May. The exhibit greets those who enter with the work of nine local artists. Sauls, the organization's CEO, says she hopes it sparks visitors' curiosity and employees' creativity.

"We wanted to make sure that anybody who walked by could see themselves in BCF," Sauls said.

The art exhibition is a pilot project for the Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance's Creative Exchange program, which acts as a procurement service that allows businesses and institutions to easily connect with Baltimore's creative sector. In addition to enhancing the local creative sector, the program also aims to foster creative spaces within businesses.

Beyond art installations, the Creative Exchange program can also connect companies to furniture, signage and landscaping services and offers a professional development program for artists.
