Maryland Philanthropy Network Members: Providing Support For Ellicott City Flood Relief Efforts

T. Rowe Price Group Inc. is the latest company to step up and support Ellicott City.

The Baltimore money manager's charitable foundation is donating $20,000 that will be split evenly between the Community Foundation of Howard County and the United Way of Central Maryland’s ECStrong Fund.

Businesses and property owners are continuing to cope with the devastation of the second major flood in two years. The flash flood left one person dead, 39-year-old Eddison Alexander Hermond. Main Street business owners are still cleaning up and trying to figure out whether it's worth rebuilding once again.

Since the flood, there has been outpouring of support for the community. A number of banks provided money and said they would be working with business owners to rework the terms of their loans.

T. Rowe Price's (NASDAQ: TROW) donation follows a $5,000 donation made to the United Way of Central Maryland's ECStrong Fund after the 2016 flood.

"The town is a historic treasure, and we consider it our responsibility to invest in the vitality of the communities where our associates live and work," said John Brothers, president of the T. Rowe Price Foundation, in a statement. "More than 250 T. Rowe Price associates call Ellicott City home, and we are happy to support recovery efforts.”

Howard Bank and PNC Bank donated $10,000 each. M&T Bank and BB&T Bank also made undisclosed contributions. First National Bank also provided a donation in addition to hosting a fundraiser event on June 1 for its employees.
