The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced leader to serve as Executive Director (ED) of our Homeless Prevention and Support Center. The Light House is guided by three main tenets for client care - housing, employment, and supportive services - conducted through distinct programs, including a 24/7 residential facility and transitional homes for homeless individuals and families, a community outreach center, and a robust workforce development program. The ideal candidate will combine strategic thinking with practical execution skills to advance our mission and create lasting social impact to end the cycle of homelessness. This will require the candidate to demonstrate a keen understanding of human services, while combining inspirational leadership with sophisticated management abilities.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED will provide strategic leadership for the organization's programs, operations, fundraising, and public engagement initiatives. This role offers the opportunity to work with an engaged board of directors, an experienced leadership group, and a high-performing team to make a significant difference in the lives of our clients.

About The Light House

The Light House is a place of belonging and hope for our most vulnerable neighbors.

Our mission is to rebuild lives with compassion by providing shelter and services to prevent homelessness and empower people as they transition toward employment, housing and self-sufficiency. We have tailored our services for each client who comes through our doors for over 35 years. The integrated care provided at The Light House helps clients stabilize their health, maximize income, and secure safe and stable housing. Beyond providing food, clothing, and shelter, we also address the underlying causes of homelessness such as lack of affordable housing, marketable job skills, addiction, and the debilitating effects of both mental and physical health issues. Our facilities include our 24,000 s/ft Hudson Street facility for residents and outreach, our transitional housing, and the Light House Bistro located on West Street which provides training and employment opportunities. 

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

· Understand and embrace the culture and mission of the Light House and continue to foster and nurture both

· Lead, coach, and continue to develop a high-performance management team

· Build and maintain strong relationships with the Board of Directors, major donors, and key stakeholders (including government and corporate communities)

· Provide strategic-thought leadership and vision, translated into priorities and internal/external actions

· Build and maintain effective and ongoing communications and coordination with the Board, including issue identification and resolution

· Serve as primary spokesperson and public face of the organization

· Oversee the day-to-day operations and organizational effectiveness, including hiring and retaining a qualified and diverse staff

· Prepare, submit, and manage the annual budget

· Coordinate with the Director of Development and Communications and the Board on fundraising efforts

Education and Experience:

  • Masters or Doctorate degree in relevant field such as Public Health, Behavioral Health, Public Policy or Administration, or equivalent experience in a similar role or combination of experience and education
  • Demonstrated knowledge in homeless care, crisis response, and the underlying causes of homelessness
  • Relevant certifications in nonprofit management a plus

Physical Requirements:

The position requires periodic travel using a personal vehicle throughout the Washington DC/Baltimore City/Anne Arundel County service area. Based in Annapolis, MD, this role is an on-site executive leadership role, to enable the ED to effectively lead the organization, engage with staff, and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders and community partners. Due to the nature of our work, the successful candidate must be able to pass a background check.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $150,000.00 - $190,000.00 per year
