United Way of Central Maryland’s Walk a Mile Experience

United Way of Central Maryland’s Walk a Mile Experience

Wednesday, January 31, 2018, 9:30 AM - 12:00 PM

This event will now take place on the snow date of January 31.

Please join us for United Way of Central Maryland’s Walk a Mile Experience, hosted jointly by the Baltimore Women’s Giving CircleJewish Women’s Giving Foundation and the Maryland Philanthropy Network.

What is Walk a Mile?
United Way’s Walk a Mile Experience is a hands-on, immersive activity that illustrates the complexities and barriers families living in poverty face in a personal and unforgettable way. You will play either the role of a family member who is struggling to make ends meet, or the role of a community service provider. Please play these roles respectfully. The roles are based on actual stories of people currently living near or below the poverty line in central Maryland, or the service providers working with these members of our community. The goal of Walk a Mile is not to recreate what it’s like to live in poverty. We seek to provide an experience that will raise questions and prompt dialogue about how to support people who find themselves facing this reality every single day of their lives.

The experience will take place on the Snow Date of Wednesday, January 31st from 9:30 am-12 pm, with an optional lunch to follow from 12:00 -1:00 pm

Dress Attire: Comfortable to business casual. We will NOT be walking an actual mile in this experience. However, participants will be moving around a fair amount.

Parking and Special Instructions: There will be ample parking at JCC. Please make sure to bring your photo ID with you into the JCC and allow time for the check-in process.

Cost: $0 for event only, $15 for optional lunch.
