Seniors & Housing Collaborative Emergency Response Workgroup Meeting-May 2023

Seniors & Housing Collaborative Emergency Response Workgroup Meeting-May 2023

Monday, May 22, 2023, 1:30 - 3:00 PM

The Seniors & Housing Collaborative Emergency Response Workgroup is committed to creating connections and partnerships between both Baltimore City / State agencies and community-based organizations to respond more effectively to future emergency situations. The group will identify and resolve the gaps in communication and ensure there is direct delivery of information and resources to our most vulnerable older adult, disabled and mobility-limited, and internet-lacking households. The emergency response workgroup plans to recruit community-based organizations to assist the City’s emergency team in outreach and supply distributions.

Dr. Benjamin Zaitchik, JHU professor in Earth and Planetary Sciences, will speak to us about the Baltimore Social-Environmental Collaborative (BSEC), an impressive new, five-year, US Department of Energy (DOE) funded research project that will collaborate with Baltimore community members to study climate change adaptation and mitigation solutions to existing and emerging environmental justice challenges in the city. Dr. Zaitchik is the current commission of Baltimore City's Sustainability Commission and deeply engaged in climate dynamics and its effects on people.  Click here to read the DOE announcement.

Also, Drs. Latkin and Dayton will update us on their initiative and grant proposal for creating heat-related illness communications and outreach.

This event is for Maryland Philanthropy Network members and invited guests only.
