POSTPONED | The Democracy of Justice: Our Liberation Is Bound Together

POSTPONED | The Democracy of Justice: Our Liberation Is Bound Together

Wednesday, November 08, 2023, 10:30 - 11:30 AM

This meeting has been postponed. A new date and time will be provided soon. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Join Maryland Philanthropy Network’s Emergent Philanthropy Roundtable, to discuss Darren Walker’s book From Generosity to Justice: A New Gospel of Wealth. Bring your questions, your favorite quotes, or just a curious attitude! If you're not able to read the book but would love the opportunity to wrestle with ways to transform grant practices to achieve a more just and equitable world, you are encouraged to join as well!

This peer discussion will focus on chapters six through eight.

Prompts to consider:

  • The Power of Proximity: Valuing Both Expertise and Experience
  • Using our expertise to help create or help be a part of the collaboration.
  • Bringing Hidden Labor to Light
  • Building power from the margins until the margins disappear.
  • The Courage of Conviction: Standing Up and Speaking Out
  •  Speaking truth to power will always involve risk, even for those in positions of power.
  • Practicing a New Gospel of Wealth

Maryland is home to many local bookstores with this book in stock. We encourage you to consider supporting our small businesses ahead of this discussion. If you need some ideas of where to look, here are a few: Charm City Books, Greedy Reads, The Ivy Bookshop, and Red Emma’s. You can also support local stores through Bookshop.

This event is free and open to all Maryland Philanthropy Network members.
