Hosted and presented by United Philanthropy Forum in partnership with the Council on Foundations and Independent Sector, Foundations on the Hill  (FOTH) is intentionally designed as a forward-looking advocacy conference and experience that brings together foundation leaders, grantmakers, and regional associations from across the country to DC for meetings with Congress about key issues of importance to charitable sector.

Maryland Philanthropy Network is proud to lead the #FOTH26 Maryland Delegation. Shanetta Martin, MPN Director of Public Policy and Government Relations and Public Policy Peer Community Co-Chair for the United Philanthropy Forum, will arrange and coordinating meetings between attendees and Maryland Congressional offices for Capitol Hill days at FOTH.

While the philanthropic sector builds relationships with Congress year-round, FOTH is the one time a year when philanthropy comes together to speak with one voice to our elected leaders about the unique and vital role that charitable giving plays in America. At FOTH, we use our influence to persuade our elected officials to support critically important legislation for our sector and our communities and inform them about the unique and vital role that charitable giving plays in America. At least one member from each of MPN’s network groups are encouraged to attend. Foundation board members and trustees are also invited to attend. Please contact Shanetta Martin if you have questions or are interested in participating.

What to expect:

Foundations on the Hill 2026 offers a redesigned, four-day experience built for our sector at a pivotal moment. After a year of rapid policy shifts and heightened scrutiny, #FOTH26 is intentionally structured to strengthen sector alignment, build long-term advocacy capacity, and support coordinated federal engagement.

Across four connected days, attendees move from shared understanding to strategy-building, to unified advocacy, to long-term follow-through. Each day plays a distinct, purpose-driven role in advancing philanthropy’s independence and strengthening community well-being.

At #FOTH26, you will:

  • Deepen Policy Expertise & Strategic Capacity - Through focused conference programming with national policy experts, legal strategists, and sector thought leaders, attendees will explore the most consequential issues facing philanthropy and the collective strategies required to respond effectively.

  • Strengthen & Expand Relationships - Connect with foundation and infrastructure organization leaders, advocates, and national partners to align around shared priorities and collaborate on the long-term advocacy infrastructure our sector needs and our communities deserve.

  • Advance a Unified Sector Message - Participate in coordinated meetings with Members of Congress, congressional staff, and federal agencies, demonstrating philanthropy’s collective strength and advancing community-centered impact nationwide.
