Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic Landscape in Maryland

Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic Landscape in Maryland

Tuesday, April 02, 2024, 10:00 - 11:30 AM

The possibility of developing Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHC) throughout Maryland was raised during our Conversation with Alyssa Lord, Deputy Secretary for Behavioral Health earlier this year. CCBHCs are designed to ensure access to coordinated comprehensive behavioral health care. They are required to serve anyone who requests care for mental health or substance use, regardless of their ability to pay, place of residence, or age. This includes developmentally appropriate care for children and youth. CCBHCs must meet standards for the range of services they provide and are required to get people into care quickly.

The CCBHC model requires:

  • Crisis services to be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Comprehensive behavioral health services to be available so people who need care don't have to piece together the behavioral health support they need across multiple providers.
  • Care coordination to be provided to help people navigate behavioral health care, physical health care, social services, and the other systems they are involved in.

Join Maryland Philanthropy Network’s Health Funders Affinity Group and presenters Shannon Hall, J.D., Executive Director of the Community Behavioral Health Association (CBH), and Brett Beckerson, MSW, Senior Director of Public Policy and Advocacy for the National Council of Mental Wellbeing, to learn about their efforts to bring high-quality, integrated mental health and substance use care to Maryland residents through CCBHC’s.

Learn about the complexities of an organization becoming a CCBHC and how philanthropy can assist with the process. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) administers CCBHC Expansion (CCBHC-E) Grants, and advocates for an independent Maryland State Section 223 CCBHC Medicaid Demonstration, which also provides support to these organizations.

This program is for Maryland Philanthropy Network members and invited guests only.
