Position Summary
The Development Officer is responsible for the administrative aspects of the Community Foundation's planned giving and nonprofit endowment programs. This role reports to the Senior Philanthropic Advisor and General Counsel. The Development Officer plays a vital role by providing administrative support to the Development Office and will participate in fundraising activities, including donor relations and stewardship, marketing and communications, direct mail appeals, and special events. This role will also help coordinate the nonprofit endowment program.
In addition to the duties described in this position description, every role at The Community Foundation is expected to contribute to the organization's overall success and goals. This may mean team members will be asked to take on other tasks that may not be listed here. Examples may include working on a project or specific task outside your standard area of responsibility, participating in an organization-wide task force or special initiative, or being asked to support a colleague when needed. In coordination with the leadership team, the manager of this role will determine any additional tasks.
Requirements
This role requires skill and aptitude to engage people and build high-performing and sustainable relationships and programs. Below are the core areas of responsibility. The principal responsibilities include the following:
- Works closely with the Senior Philanthropic Advisor for Planned Giving to design, implement, and provide leadership on highly impactful donor and nonprofit engagement programs.
- Creates learning spaces and builds relationships and networks that serve as a resource base for our work.
- Work with the Marketing and Communications department to oversee various planned giving and nonprofit endowment fundraising and programmatic events.
- Manage a portfolio of approximately 25 – 50 donors, prospects, and nonprofit organizations.
- Identifies, cultivates, and motivates donors to make significant gifts to an organization through various planned giving vehicles.
- Develops important working relationships with legal and financial advisors to support planned giving efforts and be able to speak to the Community Foundation's mission, programs, and services.
- Manage relationships on the donor database and communicate accordingly with various stakeholders.
- Handle all administrative details associated with the Event and Development Department and other meetings (i.e., prepare and distribute notices, agendas, minutes, refreshments, etc.).
- Coordinate productions and mailings for annual planned giving fundraising appeals and special marketing projects.
- Attend Community Foundation events that support the planned giving and nonprofit endowment programs.
- Prepare media materials for distribution. (i.e., copying, filing, mailing, emailing).
- Assemble media and information for PowerPoint presentations.
Desired Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree; required
- Juris Doctorate, CAP certification, or other financial planning designation; preferred
- Minimum of three years’ experience
- in a program administration position, preferably in a not-for-profit development office; and/or
- in annual and/or major gift fundraising with some experience working on planned gifts
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to present information concisely and effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to organize and prioritize work
- Ability to work independently with little supervision
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- A self-starter, data and deadline-driven, and ability to multi-task with solid organizational and time-management skills
- Comfortable with public speaking
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, Database management experience – Raiser's Edge and/or FIMS preferred
Salary and Benefits
The salary range for the position is $77,600.00 - $97,100.00/annual. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
