Postponed: A Good Job Is...

Wednesday, March 18, 2020, 12:00 - 1:30 PM

Out of an abundance of caution, we have decided to postpone this program. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Please see our Statement on COVID-19 for details about how we are approaching this unfolding health crisis.

Where do you choose to eat, shop, and go to for home services? Do those businesses have equitable hiring and quality jobs practices? How would you know? Who is helping small business owners be good employers?

Join the Baltimore Workforce Funders Collaborative (BWFC), a project hosted by Maryland Philanthropy Network, for a briefing on its partnership with Civic Works to enable small businesses to adopt equitable hiring and quality jobs practices and engage with consumers around where they eat, shop and contract home services. Through its affiliation with the National Fund for Workforce Solutions, the BWFC has received a series of grants from national funders including the Gates Foundation, Walmart Giving, and the Hitachi Foundation. These grants have helped launch a critical aspect of systems change – helping to encourage and support good employment practices by local employers.

The program will feature Good Business Works, a collaboration of Baltimore business leaders, workforce experts, and nonprofit organizations coming together to expand family-sustaining careers, strengthen businesses, and help our communities thrive. We will hear a report on worker voices resulting from a series of qualitative interviews with frontline retail workers; and we will hear about work with small- and medium-sized businesses in Baltimore supported by Pacific Community Ventures and a new partnership with Design Impact to run a Human Centered Design processes. The program will highlight local business champions who are creating great places to work and leading the way in innovative employee investment strategies.

This program is for members and invited guests only; lunch will be served.
